Canary Wharf was on lockdown yesterday after a suspicious package found near Barclays’ Churchill Place HQ triggered a bomb scare. Thankfully, the incident turned out to be a false alarm.
Met Police officers deployed a bomb disposal robot in the area and carried out a controlled explosion. They cordoned off roads in the district and parts of Canada Square.
Londoners working in Canary Wharf took to Twitter to tweet pictures of the scene. They were ordered to stay inside their offices until the police had finished investigating the area.

A spokesman for Canary Wharf Group later said: “Although limited safety cordons were introduced to the eastern end of the estate, access was maintained throughout the incident and the estate has returned to normal.”
