Become a super successful content creator: Five simple tips

The idea of creating content scares a lot of people but, in reality, it’s really rather simple.

First you decide who you want to create content for and then what type of content you are going to create. You might want to create text, audio, or something else perhaps. As soon as you start creating content, you will start building an audience but what is the best way to become a successful content creator and build an audience?

In this article we will look at five specific tips to help you create great content.

1. Write as if you are having a  one-on-one conversation with your ideal reader

The first and most important thing you can do when creating content is to write as though you are having a personal conversation with exactly the type of person you are writing the article for. Forget about Search Engine Optimisation and all that stuff. If your reader doesn’t enjoy reading your work, they won’t be back and they won’t spread the word.

Have you ever read an article or post only to keep spotting grammatical errors or seeing the same word repeated over and over again? The author probably wasn’t illiterate, he or she was probably writing that way in an attempt to get optimised rankings from search engines such as Google. Did you go back to that site though? Did you recommend the article to a friend perhaps? Probably not. That’s why it is important to write for people and not for search engines.

2. Create content consistently

The only way to establish a loyal audience is to create content consistently. The internet is flooded with content. Readers have a great deal of choice when it comes to content. If you can’t satisfy their desire, they will quickly move on to another blogger who can. By creating content consistently your readers will have a reason to come back regularly looking for fresh content.

There are no hard and fast rules about how much content you should create to satisfy your audience but you should create it consistently or you simply won’t have an audience to create content for.

3. Develop your own unique voice

If you prefer to talk rather the write then it is worth investigating the possibility of using an audio to text service like Audext.com. These services transcribe your audio recordings. Even better, they will convert your audio to text in a format that you can then post instantly. This not only gets your content out quicker to your readers, it saves you a lot of time in having to type everything up yourself. It is estimated that we speak around 100 – 130 words a minute. Even the fastest of typers would have trouble keeping up with that.

Perhaps more importantly, by speaking your articles and posts out loud, as opposed to typing them, you are much more likely to use and develop your own unique voice. One mistake a lot of writers make is over-polishing their work. They end up editing their unique voice out of the article and it just gets lost in a sea of similar content. Hence, it is not only easier to use a transcription service, it can actually help you develop your own unique voice.

4. Leverage your website’s metrics and data to improve your content

There is something quite poetic about you telling stories via your website and the metrics and data of your website telling you stories in return. The stories they tell are of how well your content is going down with your audience, which posts they are liking, how long they are staying on average and where they are coming from.

Reading these sort of metrics on a regular basis and adapting to the valuable information they are providing you with will help you improve your content and give your audience more of what it actually wants. What that means is that your content will just naturally get better and better and your audience will grow and grow.

5. Build a relationship with your audience

If you want to be a successful content creator, you need to always take an audience-first approach. Let your audience know that you care about them by producing ever better content for them. Welcome their feedback.

If one of your readers reaches out, take the time to reply. If they have some suggestions, consider acting on them. It takes time to build up a good relationship with your audience but it’s a relationship that can pay off for you and them. They get great content and you get a successful site.

Content is king but your audience are supreme

They say that content is king. That may be true. Good content is like cream, it always rises to the top. However, your audience are supreme. Quality content is content that your audience enjoy reading and want lots more of. Following the five tips above, you will be well on your way to delivering just that!
