The US and Canada scrambled their war planes as two TU-95 long-range strategic nuclear capable bombers flew within Alaska’s air defence zones along with two Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets.

North American Aerospace Defence Command scrambled four F-16 fighter jets, four KC-135 refuelling planes and an E-3 surveillance platform.

Norad said American and Canadian sovereignty was not breached and the Russia warplanes remained within international airspace.

Norad said, “The Russian military aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.”
