Commuters set to face more chaos…
The RMT union has just announced staff on Southern Rail will strike for 24 hours next week.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), will walkout on the 22 February.
The parent firm Govia Thameslink (GTR) has not yet responded to the announcement.
After the latest talks broke down, GTR was hoping to end the 10-month row over guard’s roles on the trains. It said it was “saddened” that talks at the conciliation service Acas had ended.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “The abject failure by Southern Rail in yesterday’s talks to take the safety issues seriously has left us with no option but to confirm further action.”
“These disputes could have been settled if Southern had listened to our case.”
The move is likely to lead to further disruption on the trains.
