Four areas across England are facing localised lockdown “within days” as the missing test and trace data had hidden thousands of infections.
Due to a technical glitch in the test and trace data the cities with universities which include Oxford, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds are seeing soaring infection rates.
This data error saw a rise of 22,961 more coronavirus cases which was revealed on Sunday.
According to the MailOnline the technical error was reportedly with an Excel spreadsheet which meant between 25 September and 2 October 15,841 were not included in the government’s data.
The Telegraph has reported that residents in Nottingham have been told to prepare for a tight lockdown measures.
Nottingham which has two universities was not previously on the government’s watch list.
Newcastle has seen a rise in cases of 500 per 100,000 population, whilst Sheffield has seen cases almost treble from just over 100 per 100,000 population to 268.
The cities with universities and hold a large student population are seeing the largest rise in coronavirus cases.
