Banksy’s painting depicting MPs as Chimpanzees in the House of Commons has been sold by Sotheby’s for a record breaking £9.9m.
The painting called ‘Devolved Parliament’ was expected to fetch £2m on Thursday.
The hammer went down “to applause at £9,879,500 – nine times its previous record – after a 13-minute bidding battle,” Sotheby’s tweeted.
Sotheby’s said, “Regardless of where you sit in the Brexit debate, there’s no doubt that this work is more pertinent now than it has ever been.”
Banksy said, “shame I didn’t still own it.”
