London Underground in chaos as second Tube strike paralyses the capital

A second 24-hour strike by the RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport union) has rapidly caused fresh disruption on the London Underground, with services across the capital severely affected and key lines suspended.

Members walked out again at midday, but the impact was already being felt during the morning commute, with overcrowding and delays spreading across the network.

The Circle line has been fully suspended, while the Metropolitan line is operating only partially. Other lines are experiencing severe delays, leaving large parts of the system effectively paralysed.

The action follows earlier industrial unrest this week, which caused widespread disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday and continued to affect services into the evening, even after the official strike window had ended.

Transport for London services have been hit particularly hard during peak travel periods, with knock-on effects for businesses and commuters across the city.  The dispute centres on a long-running row between the RMT and Transport for London over proposed changes, including a four-day working week and wider staffing and scheduling concerns.

Unless resolved, further strikes are already planned for May 19, May 21, June 16 and June 18, each expected to last 24 hours. London Underground management has urged the union to return to talks, warning that continued disruption risks prolonged damage to the capital’s transport network and economy.
