The Health Secretary Matt Hancock is to address the Commons at 3:30pm on today with an update over a decision to place London into the strict Tier 3.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has said on Monday that the capital could be plunged into the strict Teir 3 this week.
Cases in London are soaring and the infection rates now stands at 191.8 cases per 100,000 population on 6 December, compared to 158.1 the previous week.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor for London told Sky News “If the government decides to do that they must provide additional support over and above what has been offered to make sure these businesses go bust.
“If they go bust not only will it lead to hundreds of thousands of Londoners being made unemployed, but our ability to recover from this pandemic will be made much harder.
“It is in nobody’s interest for these businesses to go bust, December is a crucial month for many of these business.”
