A significant buildup of our military forces marks an increasingly tense situation in the Middle East. Reports indicate that 11 F-22 Raptors have arrived to target Iran’s air defences, highlighting the growing regional tensions.
Recent satellite photos taken by Planet Labs PBC and analysed by the Associated Press show that American vessels, which usually dock in Bahrain—the home of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet—were all out at sea. US President Donald Trump is seeking a deal to constrain Iran’s nuclear program, with another round of indirect talks in Geneva scheduled for today. This underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing conflict and fostering dialogue.
Iran also wishes to avoid conflict, but it insists on its right to enrich uranium and is unwilling to discuss other issues, such as its long-range missile program or its support for armed groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
The F-22 Raptors serve as a Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD) platform, according to reports from The Sun. This marks the first time F-22 Raptors have been based on Israeli soil for a combat mission, indicating a notable escalation in regional military cooperation.
The planes flew from RAF Lakenheath and were supported by refuelling tankers. Of the 12 aircraft that took off, one had to turn back due to a suspected fuel leak.
Israeli officials have reportedly stated that they believe a US strike is “inevitable.” This statement emphasises the serious risk of escalation in the region and highlights the potential for conflict with widespread implications.
“There would be no victory for anybody — it would be a devastating war,” Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told India Today.
“Since the Americans’ bases are scattered through different places in the region, then unfortunately perhaps the whole region would be engaged and be involved, so it is a very terrible scenario.”
