The UK is in for a wild wintry weekend. Heavy snow and rain are set to batter northern regions.

Saturday will begin cold and bright, with widespread frost overnight. Most areas will see sunshine before clouds roll in from the west.

By Saturday evening, rain moves in — turning to snow where cold Arctic air meets milder Atlantic weather.

“Snow is likely ahead of the rain across northern England and Scotland and could reach lower levels at times Saturday night into Sunday,” said Met Office Chief Forecaster Rebekah Hicks.

The snow will gradually turn to rain as the front moves east. Coastal areas will feel the wind, and some rain could be heavy. Yellow National Severe Weather Warnings are in effect for central and northern parts of the UK.

Rain and showers will continue, with strong winds especially in the north .A drier, colder day is expected before more rain sweeps in from the southwest.

The second half of the week will stay unsettled. Expect more rain, strong winds, and hill snow. Keep an eye on further warnings as the weather evolves.

The Met Office urges the public to monitor forecasts closely and stay safe.
