Rishi Sunak back to favourite for next Tory leader after second TV debate

Rishi Sunak is the 6/5 favourite to be the next Tory leader after Sunday’s second televised debate. Sunak was the frontrunner on Betfair Exchange when Boris Johnson resigned earlier this month, but Penny Mordaunt overtook him as the favourite last week.

Now, Mordaunt is 11/4 to move into No.10, with Liz Truss 7/2 and Kemi Badenoch 15/1, as it stands, Sunak (1/25) and Mordaunt (8/15) are both odds-on to be the final two Conservative MPs in the leadership contest.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said, “After Sunday’s second televised debate, in which a snap poll found almost one in four people believed Rishi Sunak performed best, the ex-chancellor has regained his spot as the favourite to be the next Tory leader at 6/5.

“Sunak had been the frontrunner to replace Boris Johsnon when he resigned, but Penny Mordaunt became the new favourite last week.

“Now, though, Mordaunt is 11/4 to move into No.10, with Liz Truss trailing behind at 7/2. Meanwhile, Sunak and Mordaunt are both odds-on to be the final two Conservative MPs in the leadership contest.”
