Low pressure is sitting to the northwest of the UK and weather fronts trailing across the country will cause a rather wet start to the week for many.

Tuesday will be a brighter day for everyone with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.

The showers pushing in from the west will be most frequent in the north of the UK by afternoon and could be heavy at times. Central and southeastern areas will be drier, brighter and a bit fresher.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Tony Wardle, said, “Mid-week onwards will see a ridge of high pressure building across southern parts of the country bringing a settled, drier interlude here while unsettled conditions continue further north and west with more rain to come.

“The rain will be heavy and persistent at times and National Severe Weather warnings for rain have been issued for parts of Scotland from Wednesday through to Friday.”

Towards the end of the week warm or very warm air is likely to be drawn up from the south across the UK with temperatures hitting the mid-20s.
