WHO say they are not aware of any new strains of the Nepal variant in Europe

The World Health Organization (WHO) have said today that they are “not aware” the Nepal variant which is allegedly sweeping across Europe.

It was reported today that the new Nepal variant of Covid is believed to have originated in Nepal which borders China and could be resistant to vaccines, the Daily Mail has reported.

The WHO in Nepal wrote on Twitter, “WHO [Nepal] is not aware of any new variant of SARS-CoV-2 being detected in Nepal.”

The WHO Nepal did say that they are aware of the Kent variant and the two Indian variants which are in circulation in the country.

Tory peer Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith, chairperson of the Airport Operators’ Association, said, “How many more variants have we got to be worried about?

“What matters is data and the success of our vaccination programme.”

A member of the government’s SAGE committee told the Daily Mail, “There are thousands of variants. This is a virus that is changing all the time.”
