Ukraine has launched another major drone strike on occupied Crimea, hitting a key electricity substation and causing power outages across parts of the peninsula as Kyiv intensifies its campaign against Russian military infrastructure.
The overnight attack reportedly struck the 110/10kV Moynaki substation in Yevpatoria, a critical electricity distribution hub in western Crimea. Monitoring group Crimean Wind said the facility caught fire after the strike, leaving Yevpatoria and nearby settlements without power.
The disruption also affected water supplies, with the Russian-installed utility Voda Kryma blaming an accident on the electricity network for partial service interruptions.
The Moynaki substation underwent a major modernisation in 2024, reportedly costing one billion roubles and almost quadrupling its capacity, making it a strategically important asset for both civilian and military infrastructure.
The strike follows a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on occupied Crimea this month targeting power facilities, military sites and logistics infrastructure. Kyiv is increasingly using long-range drones to undermine Russia’s ability to sustain its occupation while forcing Moscow to divert resources to protect critical assets.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed its air-defence systems intercepted 376 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, the Sea of Azov, occupied Ukrainian territory and several Russian regions overnight, although those figures could not be independently verified.
The latest attack underlines Ukraine’s growing ability to reach deep inside occupied territory, increasing pressure on Russia’s energy network and military logistics as the war enters another critical phase.
