Ukraine’s Azov forces claim they have struck a major blow against Russia’s military supply chain after drone operators destroyed infrastructure at a secret fuel hub deep in occupied Donetsk that was feeding Putin’s army on the front line.
The attack, revealed by the 1st Corps of Ukraine’s National Guard “Azov”, targeted a hidden Russian logistics base in Novoamvrosiivka, which had been used to store and distribute fuel across a wide section of the battlefield.
The operation, dramatically named “Inferno”, was carried out after extensive reconnaissance, with Ukrainian drone operators using precision strikes to hit the facility with Hornet drones, according to Azov.

The unit said the attack damaged fuel tankers, disrupted key infrastructure and blocked nearby railway tracks — striking at the supply routes that keep Russian armoured units, artillery and vehicles moving.
“Petroleum products are the lifeblood of war,” Azov said.
The unit claimed Russia had spent years building a network of logistics hubs designed to keep its forces supplied while remaining protected from Ukrainian attacks.
But the drone assault exposed the vulnerability of those rear-area installations.
UAV operators from the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine ‘Azov’ disrupted the enemy’s plans,” the unit said.
After conducting thorough reconnaissance, they struck a secret base in Novoamvrosiivka with precision strikes using Hornet drones.”
The attack highlights a growing feature of modern warfare: the battle is no longer limited to trenches and front-line positions.
Ukraine has increasingly used drones to hunt down the infrastructure behind Russia’s offensive capability — targeting fuel depots, ammunition storage sites, command centres and transport links hundreds of miles from active fighting.
Fuel is one of the most critical elements of any modern military operation.
Without reliable supplies of diesel and aviation fuel, tanks cannot advance, artillery cannot operate and logistics networks begin to slow.
Azov said the destruction of the storage facility had forced Russian forces to reconsider their supply routes and move logistics operations further back into Russian territory.
“The destruction of the storage facility has now complicated life for the occupiers,” the unit said.
But most importantly, they are forced to abandon the base and withdraw their logistics from the occupied territories to the Russian Federation.
If confirmed, the strike would represent another example of Ukraine’s strategy of attacking Russia’s military infrastructure rather than only engaging troops at the front.
By targeting the fuel, transport and supply networks that sustain Moscow’s forces, Kyiv is attempting to turn Russia’s vast logistical system into a vulnerability.
The message behind the operation is clear: no Russian base, fuel depot or supply route is guaranteed to be safe — even far behind the front line.
