Berlin has pulled their troops from Nuuk, Greenland after the US President issued a tariffs threat and warmed that some “countries are playing a very dangerous game.”
German troop pulled out after less than 48 hours after arriving on the Arctic island and Donald Trump has doubled down on threats that he wants to take over Greenland.
Around 15 German troops were at Nuuk Airport on Sunday waiting to be flown back to their home country after arriving on Friday who were thought to be on a reconnaissance mission for NATO.
The withdrawal of the German troops comes after Trump warned he will impose a 10% tariffs threat to nations who are prepared to help Denmark.
The US President threatened an increase of 25% in June if by that month America has not take control of the country.
Last week the US President’s envoy to Greenland, Governor Jeff Landry issued a warning on Friday saying that a deal to have the Arctic island “should and will be made.”
Landry said he is planning to travel to Greenland in March and made it clear that Donald Trump “is serious” about having the island.

Speaking to Fox News on Friday, “I do believe that there’s a deal that should and will be made once this plays out.”
He added, “The president is serious. I think he’s laid the markers down.
“He’s told Denmark what he’s looking for, and now it’s a matter of having secretary [of state, Marco] Rubio and vice-president JD Vance make a deal.”
The tariffs will be placed on all goods from the UK, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social, “These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable.
“Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question.”
Trump added, “Starting on February 1st, 2026, all of the above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland), will be charged a 10% Tariff on any and all goods sent to the United States of America.
“On June 1st, 2026, the Tariff will be increased to 25%. This Tariff will be due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.”
The US President insists now is the “time for Denmark to give back,” he warned, “China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it.”
The UK, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France and the Netherlands wrote in a joint statement, “As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise Arctic Endurance conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.
“We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland. Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind.
“Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty.”
