The British Prime Minister has issued four identical “letters of last resort” should Russia launch nuclear missiles on the UK killing him and the government.

The “letters of last resort” are hand written by the Prime Minister providing his last orders to the commanding officers of the four British ballistic missile submarines in the event of his death.

The UK is now at it’s highest nuclear threat level in decades with Russia and NATO are now trying to strike a balance of holding Moscow to account without escalating any further threat of a global thermonuclear war.

Vladimir Putin and his generals know that they are failing in Ukraine and tensions are now so severe many fear the Russian leader could launch a strike to show strength in an attempt to keep him in power.

A top US intelligence official warned on Tuesday that the prospect of defeat in Ukraine could see Putin ending up launching a nuclear strike as he is clinging on to power.

Avril Haines who is the director of national intelligence warned, “We do think that [Putin’s perception of an existential threat] could be the case in the event that he perceives that he is losing the war in Ukraine, and that NATO in effect is either intervening or about to intervene in that context, which would obviously contribute to a perception that he is about to lose the war in Ukraine.

“There are a lot of things that he would do in the context of escalation before he would get to nuclear weapons, and also that he would be likely to engage in some signalling beyond what he’s done thus far before doing so.”
