A man is in a life-threatening condition after being struck by a car in north-west London, with police launching an investigation into the incident.

Emergency services were called to Golders Green Road shortly after 8.20 pm on Wednesday following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The victim, a 41-year-old Iranian national, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Officers confirmed the incident is not being treated as a terrorist incident and is instead being investigated by the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A 39-year-old Iraqi national was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a drug sample. He remains in police custody.

The Metropolitan Police said enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

A force spokesman also urged members of the public not to share footage of the incident circulating online.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response in the area, with parts of Golders Green Road cordoned off while officers and forensic teams carried out investigations into the early hours of the morning.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage relating to the collision to come forward.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said: “We know that this incident will cause significant concerns in the local community, and residents can expect a continued police presence throughout the night.

“Detectives are working to quickly establish the circumstances, and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us.

“We are aware of videos circulating on social media appearing to show the collision and those involved. We would discourage the public from sharing both due to the graphic nature of the footage and to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
