X website and app back up after going down affecting thousands of users

According to the website Downdetector, the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter was experiencing outages affecting thousands of users on Thursday morning.

As of 6am there was almost 4,000 outage reports according to Downdetector, which tracks online outages.

Some users trying to access the app found their timelines empty and the homepage was only displaying the message: “Welcome to W!”

In total tens of thousands of outages were reported on Thursday morning according to Downdetector.

The X website and app now appears to be back up and running.
