WH Smith boss pay surges by 78% due to an increase in revenue

WH Smith boss has seen his pay surge by 78% to £2.91 million since 2019 for the year to 31 August, compared to £1.63 million the previous year.

The retailer has seen continued growth with sales and profits soaring and Carl Cowling’s pay deal has been based on WH Smith performance-based bonuses.

In the year to 31 August WH Smith reported a headline pre-tax profit of £143 million compared to £73 million the previous year.

Revenues grew by 28% to £1.79 billion which was supported by UK travel business which saw a 36% increase in revenues.
