On Wednesday a United Airlines flight declared an emergency as flight UA924 from Washington DC was “running low on fuel,” according to AIRLIVE.net.

The Boeing 737 spent around half an hour in holding pattern and was then diverted to Gatwick Airport where it safely landed.

At least five other aircraft were diverted to alternative airports as the “runway was out of service.”

A Heathrow spokeswoman said, “For a matter of minutes one of the runways was out of service as an aircraft was towed from the taxiway. Heathrow is now operating as normal.”
