Overnight the US and UK carried out strikes on Iranian backed Houthis militants in Yemen in response to the ongoing attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
The British Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron said that the strikes have sent the Houthis the “clearest possible message that attacks on shipping is “unacceptable.”
Lord Cameron said that the UK will “continue to degrade” the militants in Yemen to continue with their attacks on shipping in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that four Royal Air Force Typhoons two Voyager tankers took part in the operation on Monday evening and hit targets near to the Yemeni capital Sanaa,
The Foreign Secretary, speaking to broadcasters on Tuesday, said: “Since we last took action 10 days ago, there have been over 12 attacks on shipping by the Houthis in the Red Sea.
“These attacks are illegal, they are unacceptable.
“What we have done again is send the clearest possible message that we will continue to degrade their ability to carry out these attacks while sending the clearest possible message that we back our words and our warnings with action.”
