The US President Donald Trump has said he’s spoken with the Russian leader to end the Russia’s war with Ukraine.

The US President said he believes Vladimir Putin “does care” about troops being killed on frontlines, the New York Post reports.

President Trump who was speaking whilst onboards Air Forces One claimed the war would not have started if he was in power in February 2022.

He told the New York Post that he “always had a good relationship” with the Russian President and that he has a concrete plan to end the war.

Trump added, “I hope it’s fast. Every day, people are dying. This war is so bad in Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing.”

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he can neither confirm nor deny there was any conversation between Trump and Putin.

Peskov told Russian state media TASS, “What can be said about this news: as the administration in Washington unfolds its work, many different communications arise.

“These communications are conducted through different channels. And of course, amid the multiplicity of these communications, I personally may not know something, be unaware of something. Therefore, in this case, I can neither confirm nor deny it.”

In an interview with Reuters President Volodymyr Zelensky said that security guarantees for Ukraine are the main issues.

President Trump has suggested that he could hold talks with President Zelensky next week in Washington, the US President then said “well, I’m not going there” to Kyiv.

President Zelensky wants to meet with Trump first before there are any talks held with Moscow, Reuters reported.

Zelensky told Reuters, “It is very important, otherwise it will look like a dialogue about Ukraine without Ukraine.

“It is still important for partners to discuss their issues first and then have a conversation with the enemy.”

Kyiv has said that Vladimir Putin breaks promises and has done for ten years, he is taking “no” firm stance on any discussions with Russia.

Zelensky said, “We have absolutely everything for this – we need peace.”

The Russian despot said last week, “Negotiations can be held with anyone.

“But due to (Zelensky’s) illegitimacy he has no right to sign anything.

“If (Zelensky) wants to take part in talks, I will delegate people who will conduct such talks. But the (key) issue is the ultimate signing of the documents.”
