Middle East teeters on the brink of all-out war

14th Jul 26 11:41 am

The Middle East was plunged deeper into crisis last night as Donald Trump issued a chilling warning to Iran — “we’re coming” — after the United States launched fresh military action and tensions exploded across the region.

The dramatic escalation came after reports that the US President had notified Congress that America was again at war with Iran, with US military officials confirming new strikes had been launched against Iranian targets.

In a stark message to Tehran, Mr Trump told CNN: “We’re going to take out Pickaxe Mountain. Tell the Iranians we’re coming.”

The warning marks the most serious escalation since a fragile peace effort between Washington and Tehran collapsed, sending shockwaves through global energy markets and raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

Iran has vowed to respond, with reports claiming Iranian forces launched attacks against targets in Bahrain and Jordan overnight. Authorities are assessing the incidents as tensions continue to rise.

The crisis has also moved into one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

Earlier, Mr Trump declared that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open “with or without Iran”, announcing what he described as a blockade targeting Iranian ships and their customers.

The President also said the US would seek a 20 per cent fee on cargo shipments to cover the cost of providing security in the strategically vital waterway.

The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT’,” Mr Trump said.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial artery for global energy supplies, with a significant share of the world’s oil and gas shipments normally passing through the narrow passage.

Any disruption risks sending fuel prices soaring and triggering fresh economic turmoil around the world.

The latest danger signs emerged after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker had been struck by a missile near the Strait.

According to military authorities cited by UKMTO, the incident occurred off the coast of Oman while the vessel was leaving the strategically important waterway.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation.

The latest confrontation represents a dramatic collapse in hopes of reducing tensions between the two enemies.

For weeks, diplomats had attempted to prevent further escalation between Washington and Tehran, but the breakdown of talks has once again raised the prospect of a dangerous cycle of retaliation.

Military analysts fear that even a limited exchange could rapidly widen, dragging regional powers into the conflict and threatening international shipping routes.

Iran’s leadership has repeatedly warned that any attack on its territory would trigger a major response, while the US has insisted it will act to protect its forces and interests in the region.

With missiles flying, shipping routes under threat and global markets watching nervously, the confrontation between Washington and Tehran has entered its most unpredictable phase yet.

The question now facing world leaders is whether this latest showdown ends with a negotiated settlement — or becomes the spark for a much wider war.
