MPs have cost the British taxpayer over £24m through business costs and expenses in the last year, the annual report by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA)authority revealed today.
According to the report, Ian Paisley, MP for North Antrim and member of the Democratic Unionist Party, racked up a total of £100,204 in business costs and expenses. His accommodation bill was almost £25,000 and he claimed over £45,000 in travel costs.
LibDem MP for Orkney and Shetland Alistair Carmichael claimed the second-highest bill of £82,878 which included over £45,000 in travel costs and £10,330 in accommodation bills.
At number three was Morecambe and Lunesdale MP David Morris (Conservative) who claimed almost £76,000 for the year including £23,702 in accommodation bills and £22,360 in travel bills.
