The study, conducted by sports betting experts Bet Clever, analysed pint prices of over 460 Wetherspoons across London and the UK, and projected future costs based on historical inflation data using a year-on-year increase of 3%.

Data from October 2023 was sourced for the cheapest pint of lager available in Wetherspoons which is Carling, where an average cost was found using all the Wetherspoons in each area.

Most of the highest prices are found in central London areas, with Victoria having the highest average price of £5.82, which is projected to rise to £12.19 by 2050.

Westminster ranks second among the most expensive areas with the cheapest pint priced at an average of £5.59, projected to rise to £11.70 by 2050.

The City of London area has the third-highest pint prices, with current costs of its cheapest drought beer at £5.56 but could reach £11.64 by 2050.

Crawley ranks fourth with current average prices of £5.36, projected to reach £11.22 by 2050.

Docklands takes fifth place, with prices of £5.29 projected to reach £11.08 by 2050.

Roberto Romanello founder of Bet Clever said, “These projections show how significantly beer prices will rise across London over the coming decades. The average Londoner could be paying over £11 for a pint by 2050, with premium areas like Victoria exceeding £12.

This might change drinking habits, with people choosing cheaper locations or opting to drink at home more often. As many already know, anyone planning a night out in London should be prepared to pay top prices now, but pubgoers may not be ready for the future.
