The five warships are all carrying Kalibr cruise missiles which can be fired from submarines are used for anti-submarine and land attacks which is the equivalent to a US Tomahawk and have a range of 1,500 km and can travel at the speed of Mach 3.

The Russian strike force consists of, corvettes Sbrazitelnyy, Stoikiy and Odintsovo, along with the tug Grebelsky and tanker Kama and the frigate, Admiral Grigorovich.

A UK defence source said told The Sun, “We are aware of a small number of Russian vessels which are exercising around the UK and are monitoring the situation closely.”

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson added, “We monitor activity within UK waters and its Economic Exclusion Zone, routinely providing a suitable presence to counter and deter threats.”

Also off the British coast Putin is using a “ghost ship” which is mapping the North Sea to survey the UK’s vulnerabilities in preparation for any major conflict and warned that Moscow are “preparing for war” against the UK.

A senior British MP has warned that Putin is “threatening to expand the conflict further” as he sent Russian warships to the UK and the Baltic.

Bob Seely MP, who sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee has warned that Putin is “threatening to expand the conflict further” as he sent Russian warships to the UK and the Baltic.

Seely who has a PhD in Russian military strategy, warned that “Britain is not ready” for conflict and that Putin could easily cut energy communications as NATO is exposed out at sea.

Russia could easily wipe 70 communication cables in a “deep sea sabotage operation” and Poland is ready to “defend European soil” should war break out and then advised that the UK needs to bolster maritime defense.

He added, “All these sea-faring countries have a vested interest in preventing Russian ocean sabotage. But Britain’s history is unique and our naval experience unrivalled, especially among our northern European allies.”

“The need is critical,” he added. “This century will witness a struggle between two versions of humanity: open societies like our own versus closed, authoritarian societies using all forms of state power to oppress their own people and threaten others.

“It is a struggle that we have not wanted, but one that we cannot, and must not, lose.”

Finland and Sweden are in a state of heightened alert as Putin’s warships are being observed at submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.

Swedish Navy Commander Ewa Skoog Haslum warned there could be the potential of sabotage on NATO allies by damaging or destroying the electricity networks in the Baltic which will affect the region.
