Russia suspected of spying on ‘German military training areas with drones’

Over German airbases suspected Russian drones are targeting “military training areas” where Ukrainian forces are training on Leopard 1 tanks.

German newspaper Bild reported on Sunday that German authorities have raised concerns over the potential of espionage taking place on their territory.

Since August 2023 around 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Germany in programs which cover combat training and specialist training on advanced hardware such as Patriot air defence systems.

Speaking to Bild, Marcus Faber, a member of Germany’s parliament said they have no hard evidence that Russia is behind the spying as the drones have not been intercepted.

Faber said that the Bundeswehr has “a huge amount of catching up to do when it comes to drones,” and they need more modern jamming equipment.

German lawmaker Andreas Schwarz said, “We must not allow Russia to spy on military training areas with drones.
