Mobile games continue dominating the video games industry, with millions of people choosing gaming apps for entertainment-on-the-go.

As one of the most popular mobile games worldwide, Roblox has witnessed a surge in both the number of users and revenue since the beginning of 2020. According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, Roblox players spent $820 million between January and September, 20% more than in the entire 2019.

More than $100 Million in Player Spending Per Month

In September 2019, Roblox Mobile players worldwide spent $44 million on the game, revealed Statista and SensorTower data. By the end of the year, this figure jumped to $79 million, the highest value in the second half of 2019.

Thanks to in-app purchases and microtransactions, the app generated $192 million profit between January and March 2020.

However, with millions of Roblox fans spending more time indoors and online amid coronavirus lockdown, player spending rose to $101 million in April alone and continued growing. In May, the famous kid-friendly creation hit a new record with $113 million in player spending, the highest figure since it was released.

Statistics show June, July, and August all witnessed more than $100 million in monthly player spending. Although this figure slightly dropped to $94 million in September, it still represents a 113% increase year-over-year.

Quarterly Player Spending Soared 115% YoY

The SensorTower data also revealed that Roblox witnessed impressive growth in quarterly player spending over the years.

In the first quarter of 2016, Roblox players worldwide spent $5 million on in-app purchases and microtransactions. Over the next twelve months, this figure jumped 6.5 times to $33 million.

In the first quarter of 2019, quarterly player spending jumped to $109 million, a 2080% increase in three years. The increasing trend continued in the following months, with the figure rising to $174.4 million in the fourth quarter of the year.

The second quarter of 2020 delivered an all-time record, with Roblox players spending $319 million between April and June. Although this figure slipped to $308 million in the third quarter of 2020, it still represents a 115% jump YoY.

Statistics also show the popular free-to-play game witnessed a significant growth of its user base in 2020. Between December 2019 and July 2020, the number of monthly active users jumped from 113 million to 164 million, a 45% increase in six months.
