Chancellor George Osborne’s attempt to look in touch as he worked on Tuesday night has provoked widespread derision as a “staged” photo opportunity.
At 10pm on Tuesday night, Osborne posted the photo on Twitter with the caption – “putting final touches to the speech”, in reference to Wednesday’s Spending Review announcement.

However, the half-eaten burger drew accusations of the shot being “staged”. Richard Simcox fumed: “What a cringingly staged look-I’m-just-like-you-no-really-I-honestly-am pic”.
