Denmark is “strengthening” their defences as the US President has said will “get Greenland 100%” and has said military is not being ruled out.

The Danish Prime Minister has said that NATO must “significantly increase their prescence in the Arctic” as Donald Trump wants to annex Greenland and could use military force to make it US territory.

On Friday the US Vice President JD Vance flew to Greenland and said that military action will not be required as people in the country will want to align themselves with the US and not Denmark.

Vance said, “We do not think military force is ever going to be necessary.”

The US Vice President added, “Denmark has not kept pace and devoted the resources necessary to keep this base, to keep our troops, and in my view, to keep the people of Greenland safe from a lot of very aggressive incursions from Russia, from China and other nations.”

Denmark’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen suggested the US visit shows a “lack of respect” and has called for unity and Vance’s trip to the capital, Nuuk has caused anger there is a clear “underlying agenda as Donald Trump’s threats to invade Greenland is growing.

Vance told US troops the American military base in Pituffik, “The mission is really important, the Trump administration is really interested in Arctic security.

“It’s a big issue and it’s only going to get bigger over the coming decades.”

Trump told NBC News on Saturday, it’s a “good possibility that we could do it without military force,” Trump said, but added that “I don’t take anything off the table.”

Trump was asked what message he is sending to Russia should the US annex Greenland, he said, “I don’t really think about that.

“I don’t really care. Greenland’s a very separate subject, very different. It’s international peace. It’s international security and strength.

“You have ships sailing outside Greenland from Russia, from China and from many other places. And we’re not going to allow things to happen that are going to be — that are going to hurt the world or the United States.”

“(I)t is true that security in the Arctic must be given higher priority,” Frederiksen wrote on social media after Vance’s visit to Greenland.

“That is why Denmark is now strengthening our efforts.

“With more surveillance, new Arctic ships, long-range drones and satellite capacity. … Greenland is part of NATO, which is why NATO needs to significantly increase its presence in the Arctic.”
