The controversial US Vide President JD Vance is set to travel to Greenland on Friday and will head to the Pituffik space centre where there will be a security briefing on the Arctic.
This comes as the US President Donald Trump has threatened military action and wants to annex Greenland in a similar way as Vladimir Putin has done to Crimea and the occupied regions in Ukraine.
Washington has made a string of threats and wants to annex Greenland after decades of “neglect and inaction” by Denmark.
The White House has slammed Denmark for “neglecting” the Arctic region that Washington claims is vital to their national security.
“During the Cold War, the United States committed additional resources to Greenland to defend against Soviet missile attacks”, the White House statement reads.
“In the decades since, neglect and inaction from Danish leaders and past US administrations have presented our adversaries with the opportunity to advance their own priorities in Greenland and the Arctic. President Trump is rightly changing course.”

Vance said in a video on social media he wants to “just check out what’s going on with the security there” in Greenland.
The US Vice President added, “A lot of other countries have threatened Greenland, have threatened to use its territories and its waterways to threaten the United States, to threaten Canada, and of course, to threaten the people of Greenland, so we’re going to check out how things are going there.”
The Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told Danish media that the US is putting “unacceptable pressure” on Greenland.
He added, “You cannot make a private visit with official representatives from another country.”
He continued, “President Trump is serious. He wants Greenland. Therefore, [the Vance visit] cannot be seen independently of anything else.
“I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it is pressure that we will resist.
“It is clearly not a visit that is about what Greenland needs, or what Greenland wants.”
