Moscow has issued a direct threat to British troops warning if they enter Ukraine they will be a “legitimate military target.”
This comes as the NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said on Tuesday that as soon as a peace agreement is reached with Russia, Ukraine will see an immediate military presence from the Coalition of the Willing.
Speaking in Kyiv Rutte said, “Ukraine needs strong support. The coalition of the willing has made progress on guarantees, as mentioned by [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy.
“As soon as a peace deal is signed, there will instantly appear armed forces, planes in the sky, and maritime support from those in NATO who have agreed.”
He added, “Now we are focusing on those world events that may cause concern, so our attention may be divided. … But I want to assure you that our attention is not diverted from Ukraine. Ukraine has been and remains at the center of our security thoughts, and we are ready to provide rapid and consistent support.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the NATO chief is making an “aggressive statement that after a peace agreement is reached in Ukraine, certain troops, weapons, aircraft and naval forces from the so-called Coalition of the Willing will immediately appear there….
“And these very troops….will be led by Britain and France. All this, of course, is an undisguised plan for foreign military intervention.”
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “That is what it should be called. For us, this is categorically unacceptable.
“Russia has repeatedly stated that the deployment of Western troops on the territory of Ukraine under any flag whatsoever will pose a threat to our security.
“We will consider these troops to be a legitimate military target.”
Zakharova added, “We would like to remind you that it was precisely NATO’s unrestrained expansion of its geopolitical space to our borders, including Ukraine, that was one of the root causes of the conflict.
“Without its elimination, it is impossible to resolve the conflict. Russia will seek to achieve this goal by military or political means. We have proposed various options.”
