Explosions were reported overnight in the southern Russian city of Novocherkassk, located in Rostov Oblast.
Russian media and various Telegram channels have claimed that drones targeted railway infrastructure, leading to fires and disruptions in train services.
Preliminary reports indicate that the attack caused power outages that affected rail traffic in the area, although the full extent of the damage has not been independently verified.
Additional drone activity and explosions were reported in other parts of Russia, including Saratov Oblast and Volgograd Oblast, according to local sources. The Russian Defence Ministry stated that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed nearly 100 drones across multiple regions overnight, although these claims also could not be independently verified.
The Kyiv-based news outlet, The Kyiv Independent, reported that it was unable to confirm the Russian officials’ accounts of these incidents.

Rostov-on-Don, situated approximately 100 kilometres from the Russia–Ukraine border and near the Sea of Azov, has increasingly been regarded as a strategic logistics hub in the ongoing conflict. Previously, the railway and energy infrastructure in this region have been targeted.
Russian authorities have frequently accused Ukrainian forces of targeting infrastructure deep within Russian territory, although Kyiv has not always officially claimed responsibility for such strikes.
These overnight incidents represent another escalation in the growing pattern of long-range drone operations extending further into Russian territory, highlighting the expanding geographic scope of the conflict.
