The Reform UK leader has sent a warning to Sir Keir Starmer that the “splits in Labour are coming” following Angela Rayner’s resignation amid the stamp duty scandal.
Rayner resigned as the Deputy Prime Minister, Housing Minister and the deputy leader of Labour after an investigation found that she failed to pay enough stamp duty on a new home in East Sussex.
Starmer’s independent standards advisor Sir Laurie Magnus found that Rayner had breached the ministerial code as she paid £30,000 in stamp duty, £40,000 short of what is should have been for the property which cost £800,000.
In a video on X, Nigel Farage said, “It was inevitable wasn’t it really?
“You can’t be Housing Secretary and avoid £40,000 worth of stamp duty, it’s just as simple as that.
In the last few minutes Angela Rayner has gone but not just as Housing Secretary, more significantly she’s gone as deputy leader of the Labour Party and Deputy Prime Minister.
That means there will be an internal election within the Labour Party and you’re going to see the hard-Left of Labour shouting very loudly.
For the last few years the story has been splits within the Conservative Party. Mark my words within weeks it will be splits within the Labour Party.”
Speaking at the Reform party conference Farage said about Rayner, “It seems that female politicians are all the rage at the moment,” and the government is “deep in crisis.”
“It has become clear to all of us that it is a cabinet of wholly unqualified people to run our country.”
He attacked Rayner saying, “the deputy prime minister and housing secretary until half an hour ago.
“You simply can’t get away, can you, from being the housing secretary and avoiding £40,000 of council tax.
“It screams to entitlement.”
He added that the government is “”as bad if not worse” than the Conservative predecessors.
Farage continued, “This battle for deputy… will be very like the battles they had back in the 1980s. The left of the Labour party will rear its voice.
He predicts that “We’re about to witness a big rift in the Labour Party too.
Farage added, “Before long, there’ll be Labour MPs that reckon they’ve got a better chance on the Jeremy Corbyn sectarian ticket.
I think there is every chance now of a general election happening in 2027.
