Global miner Anglo American has seen its full-year profits rise 9% to $10bn for 2019, compared with $9.2bn in 2018, thanks to decent iron ore and precious metals performance, which offset a drag in coal and diamonds.

A drought in Chile hit production at its Los Broncos copper mine.

Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), the world biggest platinum miner has announced the appointment of Natascha Viljoen as chief executive officer, replacing Chris Griffith whose departure was announced earlier this week.

She started her career nearly 30 years ago as a trainee engineer at ArcelorMittal South Africa.
