13th Mar 24 4:08 pm

One of Kyiv’s staunchest allies will hold emergency talks over Ukraine in Berlin on Friday with the leaders of France and Germany.

On Tuesday Poland’s President and the Prime Minister met with the US President Joe Biden.

The Polish Prime Minister told state broadcaster TVP, “On Friday… I will be in Berlin with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to talk about this situation.”

In my opinion, these three capitals have the task and the power to mobilise all of Europe” to provide Ukraine with fresh aid, Tusk said.

Poland’s President has repeatedly urged their allies to boost NATO defence spending which comes as Warsaw is on a war footing and are spending 3.9% of their GDP.

The Polish President Andrzej Duda has called on all NATO members to increase their defence spending to 3% of their GDP in order to match Russia’s spending.

Just 11 out of the 30 NATO countries spend more than the minimum 2% and in 2023 France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada and Spain spent less than this, according to Statista.

The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Duda are due to visit America as Poland has been a member of NATO for 35 years.

Duda said, “Poland is proud to have been a part of it for 25 years. There has been and there is no better guarantor of security than the North Atlantic Alliance.”

“In my opinion, these three capitals have the task and the power to mobilise all of Europe” to provide Ukraine with fresh aid, Tusk said.

He said that the Ukraine war is entering its third year and all NATO member stated must provide a ““greater responsibility for the security of the entire alliance and intensively modernise and strengthen their troops.”

He added, “In the face of the war in Ukraine and Russia’s growing imperial aspirations, the countries making up NATO must act boldly and uncompromisingly.”

He wrote in the Washington Post, “The Russian Federation has switched its economy to war mode. It is allocating close to 30% of its annual budget to arm itself”.

“This figure and other data coming out of Russia are alarming. Vladimir Putin’s regime poses the biggest threat to global peace since the end of the Cold War.”
