The Pentagon is set to send thousands of troops and fighter jets to the Middle East as Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have started their ground invasion of Lebanon.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said they will send further troops will total tens of thousands of US forces in the Middle East region.

Haaretz reported that unnamed sources from the Israeli military that tens of thousands of Arab fighters came from “a number of countries, including Iraq, Yemen and Syria.
Making refence to the 7 October attacks that took place in southern Israel last year, the daily said, “They’re not elite fighters, but neither is the Nukhba Force, and nevertheless we saw what a force of 2,000 to 3,000 gunmen can do when they surprise and attack a community.”
On Monday the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
They agreed on the necessity of dismantling attack infrastructure along the border to ensure that Lebanese Hezbollah cannot conduct October 7-style attacks on Israel’s northern communities,” the department said in a statement.
IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that Hezbollah were preparing to use Lebanese villages into military bases which were being prepared to be used as a “staging ground for an 7 October style invasion into Israeli homes.”
Hagari said that Hezbollah planned to “conquer the Galilee” and that southern Lebanon is “swarming with Hezbollah terrorists and weapons.”
The Israeli ground invasion in Lebanon will target militant strongholds which are a threat to Israel, Hagari added, “We have no choice but to do it ourselves. I want to make it clear.
“Our war is with Hezbollah, not with the people of Lebanon.
“We do not want to harm Lebanese civilians and we’re taking measures to prevent that.”
