Russia has targeted the city of Poltava (central Ukraine) injuring 219 and at least 49 people have been killed on Tuesday.
This is the largest and deadliest attack since the war started on 24 February 2022 as Russian fired two ballistic missiles and there is a threat of a “double-tap-attack” in the city.
The attack happened at midday UK time, 2pm local time and there is still many trapped under rubble and rescuers and medical teams are working to free people, 25 have been rescued.
A medical facility and an education building was hit in the attack and the Military Institute of Communications was partially destroyed, the Kyiv Independent reports.

The rescue operation is proving difficult as there is “multiple air raid alerts” and there is the threat of a “double-tap-attack,” the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Zelensky said in a statement, “According to available information, two ballistic missiles hit the area.
I am horrified by the devastating news of Russia's missile attack on an educational institution and a hospital in Poltava, Ukraine, which has claimed the lives of at least 41 innocent people and left more than 180 others injured.

“They targeted an educational institution and a nearby hospital, partially destroying one of the telecommunications institute’s buildings.
“People were trapped under the rubble. Many people were rescued, but more than 180 were injured. Unfortunately, there are many casualties.
“As of now, we know that 41 people were killed. My deepest condolences to all of their relatives and loved ones.”
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a statement, “The time interval between the alarm and the arrival of the deadly missiles was so short that it caught people during an evacuation to the bomb shelter.”
They added, “We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. This tragedy is yet another evidence of the enemy’s cunning, which stops at no crime to try to intimidate Ukrainians.
“We urge everyone to remain calm and trust only official sources of information. Any speculation on this tragedy is unacceptable.”
Pro-war Russian channel Rybar said, “as a result of the attack, valuable communications and electronic warfare specialists were eliminated.”
