A Ukrainian woman wanted by Interpol over a bomb attack in Monaco has reportedly been found shot dead near Kyiv, in a dramatic twist to an international manhunt.
According to Ukrainian media, the body of 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska was discovered late on July 6, just days after Interpol issued a Red Notice seeking her arrest over an explosion that injured three people in the wealthy Mediterranean principality.
Reports suggest Berezovska died from gunshot wounds. Ukrainian outlet Pravda said two suspects have since been detained, including a serving officer with Ukraine’s military intelligence agency and a former law enforcement official.
Ukrainian authorities have not publicly confirmed the circumstances surrounding her death.
Interpol had accused Berezovska of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and planting an explosive device in a public place following the June 29 blast in Monaco.
Investigators allege the suspect disguised herself as a man before planting a booby-trapped backpack inside the entrance of a residential building.
Prosecutors believe the explosive device was detonated remotely after she had walked approximately 12 metres away.
Authorities also believe the suspect travelled in a vehicle bearing German registration plates, crossing multiple European countries, including Italy, before arriving in Monaco.
The explosion injured three people and is believed to have targeted Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Iermolaiev, a Cyprus national who has previously been sanctioned by Ukraine over alleged business links to Russia. Monaco prosecutors have not officially identified the intended victims.
The apparent killing of the prime suspect raises fresh questions over who organised the bombing and whether the attack formed part of a wider network operating across Europe.
With two arrests now reported in Ukraine, investigators are expected to examine whether Berezovska’s death was linked to efforts to silence a key suspect before she could face extradition or questioning. At present, there is no official evidence confirming the motive behind her death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
