The former UK ambassador to Russia has said that Ukraine will most likely have to give up a percentage of their territory to Moscow to end the war which means Vladimir Putin will be “rewarded” as the “aggressor.”
Sir Tony Brenton told Sky News the “road is open” for President Donald Trump who will encourage a peace deal, which Putin is holding out for.
Sir Tony said, “The big question is whether he has the skill and subtlety to pull the thing together.
“The trick is to find a deal for Ukraine which, while it involves territorial concessions, gives them the key things they’re looking for – survival as a Western-oriented link to the West, with security guaranteed by the West – but the price is going to be concessions.”

He said that Russia invading Estonia or Poland is “sheer nonsense” as “Once you’re a NATO member, you are part of an alliance which spends 10 times as much as Russia on defence.
“They may be aggressive, they may be nasty, but they’re not stupid – they are not going to launch a war which they know they would lose.
“The claims that an unsatisfactory deal for Ukraine then just leads to doom for NATO are nonsense.”
The former British Chief of the General Staff General Lord Dannatt told Sky’s Kay Burley on Wednesday that President Volodymyr Zelensky could be forced to the negotiating table “against his own will” by Trump.
Lord Dannatt said, “If [Trump] makes it clear to Zelenskyy that the Americans are going to scale down support dramatically and the Europeans are not able to make up the difference, then frankly Zelensky is going to be forced to the negotiating table against his own will.”
He said that a compromise will be require and “some part of eastern Ukraine will probably end up permanently in Russian hands.”
He warned that European security is “pretty appalling” as the Putin “will have been rewarded.”
