The Russian ambassador to the US has said that Vladimir Putin has “made a decision” on how to respond to Ukraine’s incursion in the Kursk region.

On 6 August Ukrainian armed forces launched a major incursion into the Kursk region of the Russian Federation and it is believed that there could be around 10,000 troops involved.

Since the incursion started the Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, said that some 115,000 residents were resettled from the border region.

People from 29 Russian regions left their homes from the Kursk region and have been placed into temporary accommodation.

Anatoly Antonov warned, “I tell you sincerely that the president has made a decision.

“I am firmly convinced that everyone will be severely punished for what has happened in Kursk region.”

Putin’s reputation has been tarnished since the incursion started and the EU’s top diplomat Joseph Borrell said he has been hit with a “severe blow.”

Borrell wrote on X that Ukraine’s invasion is “a severe blow to Russian President Putin’s narrative.”

On Thursday the US embassy in Kyiv has also warned there is a ‘heightened risk” of Russian attacks ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day on 24 August.

In a statement the US embassy “assesses that during the next several days and through the weekend there is an increased risk of both nighttime and daytime Russian drone and missile attacks throughout Ukraine in connection with Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24.”

Speaking to RBC-Ukraine, Oleksandr Musiienko, the Head of the Сenter of Military Law Researches warned, “Risks (of a strike around Independence Day) exist. They cannot be ignored. There are signs that Russia is preparing for an attack.”

Musiienko told RBC-Ukraine, “Training flights are being conducted, and stockpiles are being prepared.

“So the enemy generally can carry out such an attack. A certain period has passed, and the missile stockpile they may have accumulated could amount to around 100 missiles. I mean those ready for use, which could be equipped.”
