Ofcom has reported that the average broadband speeds that households are receiving have risen by almost 20% over the last year.
The download speed average has now passed 50Mbit/s by 18% to 54.2Mbit/s over the last year, according to the regulators report.
The Home Broadband Speeds report compared different broadband package speeds using data from monitors that were installed on broadband routers. Upload speeds have more than doubled over the last five years.
Yih-Choung Teh, strategy and research group director at Ofcom said, “Broadband comes in lots of flavours these days: copper, superfast, cable and full fibre. Which kind you choose can really affect your online experience.
“So, we’re encouraging people to visit our dedicated Boost Your Broadband website, to find out how they could get faster broadband, for the same or less than they pay now.”
