The US President has criticised Sir Keir Starmer over his decision to meet with President Xi Jinping in China.

Starmer’s intentions is to thaw the ice between London and Beijing and push for closer relations with the superpower and build on trade.

Donald Trump was asked over Starmer’s efforts to have closer ties, the US President said it is “very dangerous for them to do that”.

Two weeks ago, the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney went to Beijing to do a deal to ease tariffs on electric vehicles.

Carney said after he and Jingping signed an agreement to lower tariffs, that Canada is positioned “well for the new world order.”

Trump said, “It’s even more dangerous, I think, for Canada [than the UK] to get into business with China.

“Canada is not doing well. They’re doing very poorly, and you can’t look at China as the answer.”

The President added, “I know China very well. I know President Xi is a friend of mine. I know him very well.

“But that’s a big hurdle to go over when you get Canada.”
