Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus’ leader has said he now has no plans to join Putin’s war in Ukraine, according to Belarusian state news agency Belta.

Lukashenko who was not democratically voted in as the leader of Belarus has no doubt left Vladimir Putin angry and possibly in a difficult position – if this can at all be believed.

It has been reported that Lukashenko told the Belarusian military, “[Putin] gave me a detailed introduction to the situation and most importantly, to the development of the situation.”

He added troops would not be involved in the invasion but in a caveat Lukashenko said they could be called upon “if necessary,” which seems to be a contradiction.

Over the past few days it has been reported that Belarusian special forces were seen to be loading aircraft with equipment sparking rumours that they could join the fight.

Lukashenko’s U-turn could have come as the Russian army have not taken Ukraine and the capital as they have been met with fierce fighting which has left Putin furios as he thought he would take the country within days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously condemned Belarus for its alleged attacks as they had fired ballistic missiles into Ukraine.

President Zelensky said, “You aren’t on the same side with us in the war that is going on now.

“The Russian military is launching missiles at Ukraine from your territory.

“From your territory, they are killing our children, they are destroying our homes and trying to blow up everything that has been built for decades.”

He added, “We are your neighbours. Be Belarus, not Russia!”
