The US state of Texas has seen a surge in cases which have now surpassed 1.1m cases, and the El Paso morgue has become overwhelmed with bodies.
The state has recorded more than 20,000 deaths this week and was forced to reach out to the Sheriff’s office for help.
Prisoners at the El Paso detention facility were asked to help out at the morgue for just $2 and hour.
One in every 417 people have tested positive in the last week, with 428.3 new cases per 100,000 population.
The last two weeks the rolling number of new daily cases increased by 54% to 3,340.
Republican governor Greg Abbott has provided no indication of further restrictions, and he recently relaxed some restrictions by allowing gyms and restaurants to reopen.
The true number of infections could be far higher as many people have not been tested.
