The Chancellor has been dealt another blow as her Uncle attacked Rachel Reeves and the government for being “totally out of depth.”
Terry Smith, 73, who is a retired construction industry chief said that the UK has now become a “bloody disgrace” warning “the country is in crisis.”
Smith said, “The country is in crisis. There are many ways to get out of this, by making people better off, curbing the amount of overspend.
“I feel she and the government are totally out of their depth.”
He accused his niece of breaking manifesto promises by not increasing national insurance or income tax in a “sneaky way” as Reeves has frozen thresholds which is affecting millions who are being hit with higher rates.
He said that Rachel is a “lovely person” but he just does not understand her Autumn Budget and cannot see how this is supporting working class Brits.
He said that the Chancellor is “blaming the same old things” Donald Trumps tariffs and Russia’s war in Ukraine.
He fumed these are being used as a “smokescreen” over her failure to stop government spending on welfare and the illegal migrants who are crossing the English Channel living in hotels.
Smith said, “At the first Budget, she said there was a £22bn black hole. With £40bn of tax rises, she said that was sorted, so she wouldn’t come back for more. Now, the black hole is £34bn so taxes are going up again.
“People work hard to make their lives better and all she’s doing is coming back for more and more tax.”
“It is going to cost the working class billions of pounds and leave the country worse off, “ he added.
“It’s the worst Budget I’ve ever heard — and I’m 73, so I have been around for quite a few.
“This Budget is there to help people that don’t really want to work,” Smith added.
