Putin threatens ‘retaliatory measures’ on Western vessels amid Kyiv’s shadow fleet attacks

Mad Vlad has threatened that the Kremlin could strike ships in the Black Sea of those countries who are backing Ukraine following a series of Russian shadow fleet vessels being blown up.

Ukraine has been using Sea Baby naval drones to attack sanctioned Russian oil tankers to try and cut Putin blood money supply to fund the war.

A Russian oil tanker was hit again in the Back Sea on Tuesday which is the fourth incident in a week as Ukrainian forces are stepping up their attack on Putin’s shadow fleet.

Putin told reporters when asked about the attacks on oil tankers, “What the Ukrainian armed forces are doing now is piracy.”

The Russian despot said Moscow will in the first instance “expand the range of strikes” on ports and incoming vessels to Ukraine.

The dictator said, “Secondly, if this continues, we will consider the possibility – I’m not saying we will do this, but we will consider the possibility – of retaliatory measures against the vessels of those countries that assist Ukraine.”

“The most radical option is to cut Ukraine off from the sea, then piracy will be impossible in principle,” he added.

“I hope that the Ukrainian military leadership, the political leadership, and those behind them will consider whether it’s worth continuing this practice.”

A source from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed responsibility for the brilliant attacks on the shadow fleet, saying, “Modernised Sea Baby naval drones successfully targeted the vessels.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed Kyiv’s actions calling it “outrageous,” and “an encroachment on Turkey’s sovereignty,” Ankara warned this is a “serious threat” to shipping.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said, “About 60-plus percent of Russia’s gas and oil exports pass through the Gulf of Finland, and that is an enormous volume, especially in a corridor only about 6 nautical miles wide.

“We have not said ‘don’t come here,’ but it would be wise not to, because it really could escalate the situation in the Baltic Sea.”

“But let’s be honest: Ukraine has the right to destroy military and strategic targets even on Russian territory. International waters are a bit of a different matter.”

The Turkish directorate of maritime affairs said the tanker, Midvolga 2 was hit 80 miles of their coastline by a Ukrainian drone as it sailed from Georgia carrying a cargo of sunflower oil.

The ship did not request any help and no injuries were reported among their thirteen crew members.

Last week Ukraine “successfully” attacked two sanctioned Russian oil tankers using Sea Baby naval drones off Turkey’s Black Sea coast.

A source from the Security Services of Ukraine (SBU) told the Kyiv Independent on Saturday that the two ships, the Kairos and Virat were disabled in the attack and that they could have transported almost $70 million worth of oil.

Vladimir Putin is using several hundred shadow fleet oil tankers to bypass Western sanctions and the two vessels were en route to the Russian port of Novorossiysk to collect more cargo.

The SBU source told the Kyiv Independent the drones “successfully completed their work on the ships,” they added it was a joint operation with the Ukrainian Navy which “a significant blow to Russian oil transportation.

Moscow has been moaning about Ukraine’s attacks saying it is threatening global energy security and they are strongly condemning the attacks.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said they condemn Ukraine’s successful attacks on tankers in the Black Sea and infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in Novorossiysk.
