The pressure has been ramped up further on Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak after Downing Street confirmed the Met Police will issue them with fines for breaking lockdown rules.

Johnson, is now the first British Prime Minister to have broken the law, is now 11/5, having been 13/5 last month, on Betfair Exchange to leave his role this year and 7/2 to depart in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak, who was the 14/5 favourite to be the next Conservative leader in February, is now 10/1, behind Liz Truss (6/1), Tom Tugendhat (8/1), Jeremy Hunt (9/1) and Ben Wallace (9/1).

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said, “Boris Johnson has become the first Prime Minister to break the law after Downing Street confirmed he, along with Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, will be fined for breaking lockdown rules.

“Subsequently, Johnson has seen his odds shorten to 11/5 from 13/5 to leave his role this year, while he is 7/2 to go in 2023 and odds-on at 10/11 to depart in 2024 or later.

“Meanwhile, Sunak’s week goes from bad to worse with the news of today’s fine. As a result, he is as far down as 10/1 to be the next Tory leader with Liz Truss becoming the new favourite at 6/1.”
