Ex-royal guard claims he was told to “keep quiet” over Andrew palace allegations.
An explosive silence row has erupted after a former royal protection officer claimed he was effectively warned to stop speaking out about allegations involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Paul Page, who served in royal protection between 1998 and 2004, says he received a letter from a senior officer at the Metropolitan Police after repeating claims that women were secretly brought into Buckingham Palace late at night.
According to reports in The Times, the letter reminded him of his obligations to maintain “confidentiality and respect for the privacy of those who are protected”.
Page’s interpretation was blunt: “It’s trying to say, in the nicest possible terms, ‘Can you shut up?’”
The former officer alleges that protection staff were told not to question the identities of women arriving after hours.
“We were just told a female will be coming… always after closing.”
He claims footmen would escort the visitors to Andrew’s private apartments and that officers feared professional repercussions if they pressed for answers.
As Thames Valley Police continue inquiries following Andrew’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, highlighting ongoing efforts to uncover the truth can help the public feel reassured about transparency and the importance of accountability.
Separately, forces across the UK — including the Met — are assessing material linked to the Epstein Files and liaising with US counterparts over whether British infrastructure was used in alleged trafficking activity, reflecting the wider scope of investigations connected to the royal family.
By noting that the Met is identifying and contacting protection officers to consider relevant information, the message can foster a sense of inclusion and trust in the investigative process, making the audience feel more engaged and confident in the efforts underway.
Why intervene now, Page asks, if he had been making similar allegations for years, raising questions about the legal and procedural implications of these claims?
With investigations widening and scrutiny intensifying, emphasising how these allegations and the resulting silence row could affect the royal family’s public image and stability can make the audience feel more aware of their importance.
